Medicine Hat Cubs look to secure first-round bye in playoffs

Feb 16, 2024 | 4:33 PM

Playoff hockey will soon be on its way to Kinplex.

The Medicine Hat Cubs have two more games of regular season play before they take another run at a provincial championship.

Unfortunately for the Cubs, February hasn’t been their best month of hockey, after losing three of their last four games.

However, they’re still sitting second in the Southern division of the HJHL. If they win one of their next two games, they’ll secure a 2nd place spot and a bye into the second round of playoffs.

But as captain and forward Callen Prosofsky says, they’ll need to change a few things if they want that spot.

“Obviously we haven’t gotten the results that we want, but you know what we’re still showing up and working as hard as we can and [we] just haven’t gotten rewarded for it, gotten some crappy bounces,” Prosofsky said.

“The goals that we’re scoring, they’re nice goals, and sometimes we might be getting a little bit too fancy with it, so [we] just gotta really go back down to the basics here for the remainder,” he added.

The Cubs will be the away team in their final two games, first against High River Brewing Co. Flyers, a team they lost to on Feb 13.

They play the Cannex Cochrane Generals Feb 17 in their final playoff game.
