It’s a chance for high school students to have their art professionally curated and shown off in a public space.

The High School Art Show has returned to Medicine Hat College‘s One-on-One Gallery, running until Feb. 22.

Art teachers from Crescent Heights, Eagle Butte, Medicine Hat and Monsignor McCoy high schools have chosen their students’ best works, professionally curated in the gallery by MHC art and design instructor and program coordinator Yulin Wang.

“There are over 80 pieces of art that have been selected for the show, each demonstrating the talent we have here in Medicine Hat,” Wang said in a news release Monday.

Best works will be chosen and awarded by faculty at the reception with first, second, and third place winners and two honourable mentions, each receiving a gift certificate to the MHC Bookstore.

That will take place during a public reception on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., where the high school students will be celebrated by friends, family, and community members, the college said.

Faculty and current students will be available at the reception for prospective students to ask questions about the art and design program and take tours of classrooms and art studios throughout the evening.

The One-on-One Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 to 4 p.m. for those interested in viewing the works on their own time.
