chatchPIIKANI NATION, AB – A southern Albertan is facing charges in relation to alleged drug trafficking.

Piikani Nation RCMP said it, along with Crime Stoppers, had been investigating reports of suspected drug trafficking on the First Nation for some time now.

On January 8, 2024, officers said they searched a home in Brocket and claimed to have confiscated 0.5 ounces of suspected crack cocaine, multiple unconfirmed prescription medications, and drug paraphernalia.

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance. A spokesperson with the RCMP confirmed to LNN that, because her matter has yet to be sworn into the courts, her name cannot be released at this time.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Pincher Creek on March 7, 2024.

Earlier this month, the Piikani Nation issued a state of emergency due to recent drug-related deaths. The RCMP said it is working closely with the government and that they are “doing whatever they can to get these illegal drugs off the Nation.”

Anyone with information about drug trafficking activities is asked to call their local police. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at P3Tips.com, or by using the “P3 Tips” mobile app.
