MEDICINE HAT, AB – There’s been a new addition to the Medicine Hat Tigers roster, defenceman Jack Kachkowski of St. Albert, Alberta.

The ‘07 born player signed to a Western Hockey League scholarship and development agreement with the Tigers. Kachkowski was drafted by the Tigers in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft in the 5th round, 89th overall.

Before playing in his first WHL game on the weekend, Kachkowski played for the Brooks Bandits.

“You know, the AJHL was a good league, I loved playing there,” says Kachkowski. And then just coming here it was a little bit of a step up and just adjusting to the new speed, new players and all that. Making the transition to a new city as well is always tough, but it’s been good so far.”

“We’re pretty excited to have him in, he’s a really good young player. I think it takes a little while to catch up to the speed of the league and the way we do things,” says head coach of the Tigers, Willie Desjardins. “He’s going to keep getting better. I love the way, he handles the puck, he moves well. So there’s lots of good things for his future.”

Kachkowski says now that his first game jitters are out of the way, he’s looking forward to his next opportunity to play.

The Medicine Hat Tigers next game is tomorrow night in Lethbridge.
