MEDICINE HAT — Mother Nature flipped a switch and Southern Alberta went from autumn to winter in a matter of hours.

The sudden change saw the ground turn white, temperatures fall below freezing and motorists struggling to deal with the changing conditions .

Travel inside Medicine Hat seems to be moving without issue, albeit it slower to start Tuesday.

City crews have been sanding as required while Volker Stevin has plows out on the Trans Canada highway within and outside of the city.

There are some school buses that are not running this morning, according to the transportation page for Prairie Rose schools.

Highways in southern Alberta are snow covered but visibility is not an issue.

However social media reports say there’s a long delay of vehicles waiting to get up the hill at Cluny, in the east bound lanes.

A snowfall warning remains in place not only for Medicine Hat, but for a broad region stretching from the Rocky Mountains through Calgary and as far east as Moose Jaw.

Environment Canada says heavy snowfall is expected into tomorrow with total amounts of 10 to 25 cm, with highest amounts over western portions of Alberta.

Medicine Hat had 4.2 cm of snow as of midnight last night.
