Tigers gear up for 5 game road trip in British Columbia

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers won’t be playing at CO-OP Place for a while, because they’ll be leaving for their yearly road trip tomorrow. Last year, they trekked down to the states for a week, but this year they’ll be in British Columbia.

Tomas Mrsic and Brayden Boehm will feel right at home when they hit the highway to BC. Left winger Boehm, is from Nanaimo.

“I have lots of family and friends coming to the games, which will be a cool experience for me for sure,” says Boehm. “It’ll be my kind of one and only time out there, so I just enjoy it while it’s there and just make the best of it.”

Center Mrsic is from Surrey.

“I think in Vancouver I’ve got like 30, 35 family coming, so I mean that’ll be pretty special, make it more exciting to play in front of them,” says Mrsic.

With the tight Tigers schedule, seeing family isn’t something Boehm gets to do very often.

“They’ve played a huge part in getting (me) here and just the support that they’ve given me throughout the years. You know I owe a lot of this to them and what they’ve sacrificed with spending weekends away or paying for hockey stuff. I owe a lot to them, and I’m very grateful for that,” says Boehm.

However, when the team is on the ice, it’s all focus.

“For me, it’s kind of letting those emotions not get to me and just focusing on the hockey and not thinking about the family and whoever’s there just kind of playing my game and doing my thing,” says Boehm.

Right now, the Tigers are sitting at four wins and three losses in the regular season.

“I think we’ve been getting better everyday and that’s what we want to do, just get better everyday,” says Mrsic. “I feel like this can be a huge road trip for us, I think we can go in and take most of these wins. So it should be pretty good.”

The Tigers will play their first game in Kelowna, ending in Prince George about a week later.

Associate coach Joe Frazer says they’re excited to play some teams they don’t cross very often, and make new memories on the road.

“A lot of new guys on the team, we get to do a lot of team building, it’s a long trip, I think it’s 12 days, so it’ll be great team bonding, and it’s just taking one game at a time,” says Frazer.

This trip will log about 43 hours of travel time for the Tigers.

“Guys are going to be tight on the bus, there’s going to be not a lot of room. But you know, I enjoy spending my time with the guys and I look forward to it,” Boehm says.

The Tigers are hoping to return to Medicine Hat with a few wins under their belt, as they prepare for five at home games later this month.
