Tigers’ Basha plays key role in defeating team he idolized as a kid

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Sweeping the Calgary Hitmen in last weekends two games meant an early season confidence boost for the Medicine Hat Tigers. However, for left wing Andrew Basha, it was a dream to play and beat the team he used to look up to.

Calgary-born Basha is in his third season with the Tigers. He was awarded the first-star in the second game against the Hitmen. This was a result of two assists and two goals over the two game series. What led to that success in the first two games, Basha attributes to growth and maturity in himself and his teammates.

Before Basha got to where he is now, the ’05 player spent time at the South Alberta Hockey Academy. This is a program where many local kids grow up learning the sport. He says his time there was important to his development as a person and player. Now, Basha knows young SAHA kids may be looking up to him.

“I guess just inspire whoever I can. I think all of us in the room can do that,” says Basha, when asked how he can inspire younger hockey players in SAHA. “I mean, I remember being a kid looking up to the Hitmen when I was in Calgary.

He adds, “just kind of doing anything you can in the community and just playing your best is what you can do.”

Next the Tigers will head to Red Deer to face the Rebels on Friday.
