MEDICINE HAT, AB – After a summer full of online chatter, anger and frustration about skyrocketing utility bills was in full public view on Tuesday.

CHAT News livestreamed the citizen-organized meeting. You can find it in two parts below.

About 400 residents and business owners filled Higdon Hall demanding action from city council.

Ratepayers wanted answers on immediate relief, long-term plans for how the rates are set, how the city got to this point and how to avoid it happening again.

Mayor Linnsie Clark and councillors Darren Hirsch, Cassi Hider and Andy McGrogran attended the meeting.

Council is to be presented with options for immediate community utility and other cost pressure relief at the regular Sept. 5 meeting. That timeline was bumped up, from the end of the year, at a special council meeting on Aug. 28.
