Nickelback’s hometown signs removed in Hanna, Alta.

HANNA, Alta. – The signs may be gone, but the mayor of the town of Hanna, Alta. says the love for hometown rock band Nickelback remains.

The community about 220 kilometres northeast of Calgary, removed the three signs in May declaring it was Proud to be the home of Nickelback.

The signs, at the three highway entrances into Hanna had been there since 2004 and were a popular pullover place for fans wanting to take selfies.

But Mayor Danny Povaschuk says the signs were made of wood and in serious disrepair, so they needed to be removed.

He says one will be moved by the tourist information centre and another will go to the local museum.

The third has been given to former NHL star Lanny McDonald – who is also from Hanna – to put in his restaurant in Montana.

Povaschuk says an older electronic sign just off the highway is being refurbished and a new “Home of Nickelback” sign will be added.
