‘Massive kitchen party’: Dean Brody kicks off Stampede nightshows

Jul 25, 2023 | 3:31 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Dean Brody is known for the hit song Bush Party. This week he’s ready for a stage party in Medicine Hat.

Brody is tasked with getting the biggest summer celebration in Medicine Hat started off right, playing the Stampede grandstand on Wednesday’s opening night.

He says the stage is where he realizes how lucky he is to play music for a living.

“I look out and there’s that connection and that’s what really one of the biggest rewards in music is having that connection singing about something,” Brody says. “It’s just like a massive kitchen party essentially.”

He comes to Stampede just two weeks after earning Canadian Country Music Association award nominations for the fan’s choice award and entertainer, male artist and single of the year. It’s also a couple of months the before releasing a new album titled Right Round Here.

He’s been ’round here before and feels like Medicine Hat crowds and those all over the west always bring a little more excitement.

“Try to come as sober as you can,” he says with a laugh, before adding he’s kidding. “Just come out and have a good time with us. We love signing for you and playing for you and it’s been a while since I’ve been in Medicine Hat so we’re looking forward to playing for everybody there.”

He says his setlist for the show will include some music off the upcoming album, his hits singles like Canadian Girls and other songs like Can’t Help Myself that weren’t singles but struck a chord with his fans and more.

He says combing through his catalogue and picking songs to play will present a bit of a problem but it’s better than the alternative.

“I remember when I started you had like one song and you had to do 75 minutes and people were just so bored you doing covers. It’s nice to have the problem of we’ve got too many songs let’s take this one out.”

Brody’s show features special guest Tyler Joe Miller and starts at 8 p.m. You can get tickets on the Stampede website, at the office or by calling 403-527-1234.
