Federal cabinet shuffle expected soon

Jul 25, 2023 | 2:35 PM

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to shuffle his cabinet as early as Wednesday.

That’s according to a government source with knowledge of the matter who is not allowed to speak about it publicly.

The last time Trudeau shuffled his cabinet in a significant way was in 2021.

Experts say this week’s expected shake-up will show who Trudeau wants with him on the battleground.

Jeni Armstrong is a political instructor at Carleton University.

She says this will be the cabinet that the government is going to be taking into the next election.

She says she will be looking for files that really matter to Canadians; cost of living, affordability and housing.

Armstrong, who helped write the Liberal party’s 2015 and 2019 election platform, says his cabinet will need people who can really connect with Canadians.

Four members of Trudeau’s cabinet – Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Public Services and Procurement Minister Helena Jaczek and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett – announced this week that they will not be seeking re-election.
