New playground open at Big Marble Go Centre

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city’s newest playground is now open for children of all ages and abilities.

The brand-new play structure at the Big Marble Go Centre aligns with the City of Medicine Hat’s Playground Management Plan and was designed following extensive feedback from community stakeholders and children’s groups. The city says the consultations found a desire in the community for diverse playground styles and a preference for adventure and natural-style play structures.

“The new play structure embodies our commitment to creating a destination space that is inclusive and accessible to everyone,” says the city’s Jamie McLeod in a news release. “Through community engagement and collaboration, the new playground reflects our community’s needs, desires, and best practices.”

The new playground is closer to the facility entrance than the previous one and is shielded by trees for natural sun and wind protection.

The city also went to lengths to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Its Working Group on Accessibility and Inclusion (WGAI) and Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport played key roles in the project. As well, industry best practices were researched extensively to ensure the playground offers a best-in-class experience.

Mayor Linnsie Clark extends the gratitude of council to all who worked on the project and to the community for their patience during construction.

“I know the playground at Big Marble Go Centre was sorely missed by many in our community, particularly young families. I’m so glad that they can once again experience the joy of playing outdoors and adventure at this amazing facility.”
