Local boy to donate hair after letting it grow for 2.5 years

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Noah Schubert is going for a haircut on Thursday, July 13. However, this time, it is no ordinary haircut. After 2.5 years of growing out his auburn-coloured hair, he has decided to have it cut and donated to kids who are battling cancer.

The ten-year-old boy decided that he wanted to help put a smile on the faces of kids who needed to smile the most. Over the course of 2.5 years, his hair reached down to his shoulders.

A fundraiser was also set up by Noah and his family to raise $100 for the Canadian Cancer Society. That number was since eclipsed and reached over $500 as of Monday. Schubert says that while he didn’t have a specific reason as to why he wanted to donate his hair, he said that he just wanted to help others kids out.

“I just wanted to grow my hair out and donate it to other kids. I wanted to help kids who have cancer and have no hair,” Schubert said on Monday.

Noah isn’t the only member of his family to have donated their hair, as his older sister also donated her hair when she too was around 10 years old.

Noah says that while he is not sure at the moment, he might consider growing his hair out to donate his hair again in the future.
