MEDICINE HAT, AB – Living with Cerebral palsy hasn’t stopped one local entrepreneur from chasing his business dreams.

Carter Jones opened his own company after he couldn’t find a job doing something he’s loved since he was a kid.

Handicapped & Hustlin’ offers mobile car detailing services with a wide variety of packages from vacuuming and steam cleaning to high-end detailing that includes paint repairs.

“I can come to your work and I can service your vehicle while you’re working so then when you come out after work you have a fresh, clean car.”

It’s a passion Carter has had even since he was a child.

“When it was bath time I would always have to take a model car in the bath and wash it”

Carter was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy after going into cardiac arrest when he was only two months old. Growing up Carter has always had difficulty finding work, despite his passion for cars.

“So because of my disability I am pretty sure that’s the case, it was very hard for me to find a job.”

So Carter started his own business three years ago in Calgary. He partnered with Owner’s Pride Auto Detailing Products and Supply Store who have offered Carter discount prices on cleaning products and supplies and provided the 23 year-old with mentorship and business support.

“I’ve always wanted to make my own money and live independently.”

Carter moved to Medicine Hat last year and re branded his company name to Handicapped & Hustlin’.

Carter says he is able to do most of the work from his motorized wheelchair but he needs to hire some help for those hard to reach spots.

“That’s where they kind of step in and help with the higher parts because when I do it I’m only about four feet tall so I can’t reach everything.”

Carter hasn’t allowed his disability to prevent him from reaching the top. He’s determined to build Handicapped & Hustlin’ into a successful local business with several employees.

“Everytime I get a new booking I’m so excited. Eventually I want a full business, have multiple employees and have multiple vans that go out.”

His brother Andrew says he’s proud Carter found a way to pursue his passions despite all the obstacles he’s had to overcome.

“It’s definitely an inspiration. It’s good to see him happy and busy and finding something he is enjoying day to day rather than you know holding up some sign somewhere for somebody or something like that,” says Andrew.

Carter is also documenting his business endeavors through his YouTube channel that is dedicated to detailing cars and sharing lifestyle vlogs.

Carter hopes his story will inspire others living with similar conditions to follow their dreams.

“I can’t be the only out there with a disability that wants to do good and create a brand that hopefully people will notice.”
