May 18, 2023 | 10:53 AM

BROOKS, AB – As his team chases the national junior A championship trophy this week at the Centennial Cup, Brooks Bandits forward Aiden Fink has added to his trophy case.

On Thursday morning Fink was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League most valuable player for the 2022-23 campaign. Last week he was named the CJHL’s top forward.

On Thursday afternoon, Fink was named the MVP and top forward at the Centennial Cup. Fink led the 2023 Centennial Cup round robin with 11 points on five goals and six assists, tying for the lead in both those categories.

Fink scored 41 goals and 56 assists for 97 points in 54 regular season games helping lead the Brooks Bandits to the top spot in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Fink, who also won the most valuable player and top forward awards for the AJHL, has scored 150 points on 60 goals and 90 assists in 114 games in his AJHL career.

It’s been a banner season for the Bandits’ assistant captain. He was selected to the Team Canada West roster for the 2022 World Junior A Challenge and was the CJHL’s 1st Star of the Month for October. In the AJHL, Fink earned two Player of the Month awards, two Player of the Week selections, and was named a game star seven times.

At 63rd overall, he’s the highest-ranked CJHL player in the NHL Central Scouting final rankings for this summer’s draft in Nashville.

He has also committed to NCAA Division I Penn State on scholarship.

Fink joins Cam Maclise (2012-13), Cale Makar (2016-17) and Ryan McAllister (2021-22) as winners of the CJHL MVP award.

He earned the honour over fellow MVP finalists Alexandre Marchand, (G) Cobras de Terrebonne (LHJAAAQ); Lucas Brennan, (F) Selkirk Steelers (MJHL); Tyler Fukakusa, (F) Toronto Jr. Canadiens (OJHL) and Kian Bell, (F) Battlefords North Stars (SJHL), following a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts during the course of the regular season.

Fink wasn’t the only Bandit that turned heads at the Centennial Cup. Defenceman Ethan Beyer was named the tournament’s top defenceman. He placed second among all skaters with eight points on three goals and five assists.
