UPDATE: A change in the city’s spray park plans means Hatters will have three ways to beat the heat this weekend but the fourth park won’t open until July.

Parks and recreation staff are beginning work to reopen Strathcona Island, Ross Glen Towne Centre and Saamis Rotary spray parks for the summer season on Friday, May 19, says the City of Medicine Hat in a news release.

Work to open the Kiwanis Central spray park must be delayed until early July due to construction.

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With temperatures forecast to hit 30 degrees celsius this weekend, Parks and Recreation staff are hoping to give residents a place to cool off.

Work is beginning to reopen Strathcona Island and Kiwanis Central spray parks for the summer season with a planned opening on Friday, May 19.

Work to open Ross Glen Towne Centre and Saamis Rotary Park spray parks will occur the following week for an opening of Friday, May 26.

In a release the city says in the week leading up to the official opening of our spray parks, residents might notice dedicated staff busy at work.

They will be inspecting every component of the spray parks to ensure everything is in good working order, carrying out any necessary repairs after the winter season, and giving the parks a thorough cleaning.

Even though you might spot the parks in operation during this period, please note that they might not be running at full capacity and might still need more fine-tuning.

Spray parks are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Additionally, Hill Pool and Strathcona Pool will open on Friday, June 2.

Information about hours of operation and outdoor pool admission prices can be found on the city website.

The City of Medicine Hat thanks its residents for their patience during this time.
