Saskatchewan budget projects $1B surplus, more money for health care

Mar 22, 2023 | 4:19 PM

REGINA – The Saskatchewan government is projecting a $1-billion surplus in its budget.

The province says it plans to spend most of the money on its operating debt.

Millions of new dollars are also going to the province’s struggling health-care system, with plans to hire more staff and complete more surgeries.

Finance Minister Donna Harpauer says there will be no new taxes or tax cuts.

She says she had to strike a balance in paying down debt and putting new money into health care.

The Opposition NDP says it’s disappointed with the Saskatchewan Party government’s priorities, and that the budget doesn’t go far enough to address the rising cost of living and support the health-care system.
