Saskatchewan to provide $200,000 to family doctors in rural and northern areas

Mar 15, 2023 | 12:30 PM

SASKATOON – Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has announced the provincial government is to provide family doctors in rural and northern areas $200,000 over five years.

Moe says the program aims to attract doctors to those areas, where the government has struggled to hire them.

The program previously offered eligible doctors $47,000 over four years.

Eligible doctors must be practising in a rural or remote area and hold an active licence.

Doctors practising in Regina, Saskatoon and smaller cities are not eligible.

Moe says the upcoming provincial budget is to address ongoing issues in the health-care system, including plans to do more surgeries.
