CLARESHOLM, AB – The RCMP in Claresholm is investigating incidents reportedly involving pipe bombs.

Police said that Monday, March 6, 2023, at 8:18 a.m., members of the Claresholm detachment responded to a complaint of a garbage receptacle that had been blown up in Amundsen Park. The bin had reportedly been blown up at around 2:10 a.m., according to police.

The RCMP canvassed the area and spoke with residents in the area. Police said this resulted in a video being obtained from a resident’s doorbell camera. According to the RCMP, the video showed a taller man and a shorter person walking up to the receptacle and placing a pipe bomb inside. Police said the individuals lit the fuse and watched the explosive destroy the bin. Officials note the two suspects fled the scene on foot in a northeast direction.

The RCMP was later directed to a garbage bin at the Town of Claresholm compost site.

Town employees said the bin had been damaged by a pipe bomb explosion on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at around 6:30 in the morning.

Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to contact the Claresholm RCMP at 403-625-4445 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
