MEDICINE HAT, AB – Today the province announced an investment in mental health support for children and youth.

In a partnership with CASA Mental Health, the province will be providing $92 million over the next three years to support Albertans with mental health issues.

$25 million of that investment will fund two new inpatient CASA House sites in Fort McMurray and Calgary.

Additionally four programs that serve more than 700 children with high-intensity needs will be expanded with the additional funding.

Premier Danielle Smith says the government’s goal is to expand the range of treatment options in the province.

“With this dramatic expansion in services we are supporting more young Albertans in their pursuit of recovery from mental illness and building on our ongoing efforts to remove barriers and make high quality mental health care more affordable and accessible to everyone,” said Smith.

$30 million of this funding will also go towards the creation of mental health classrooms in schools across the province to deal with students with complex mental health challenges.
