MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Southeast Alberta Home and Leisure Tradeshow is underway at the Cypress Centre.

This year the show is back in full swing following years of public health restrictions.

The expo highlights local businesses from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan and runs until Sunday. More than 170 booths and vendors are on display spanning all three buildings of the Cypress Centre.

From small home-based companies to large scale businesses, Bailey Warner, special events and marketing manager with the Chamber of Commerce says there’s something here for everyone.

“People are selling some amazing products and some services as well as just some beautiful booths. You’ll see some amazing landscapers here obviously with the children’s activity centre. We have lots to do, lots to eat, we’ve got the food alley back and it’s going to be a really great experience I think for all parties,” said Warner.

Justin Robertson is the owner of Justscape Inc., a local landscaping company, and says he is glad to see so many other local businesses take part in the show.

“It means a lot. I think I took about a two-year hiatus from doing the show and I did the five years previous to that so It’s definitely nice to not feel so backed into a corner kind of like just get out and keep it going really,” says Robertson.

For Craig Martineau, the owner of Marvelous Plumbing & Heating, it’s all about connecting with his current customers and networking with other businesses within the community.

“It’s great to get out and you know mingle with the people, tell them about the promotions we have going on. There’s always great food and great booths for us to go view and it’s always a great time,” says Martineau.

And food alley is back this year with eight vendors set up including Mutha Earth’s Mobile Cafe.

Co-owner Kat Gammelseter says it’s a great opportunity for the community to get a taste of what Medicine Hat has to offer.

“It’s been a fantastic community to connect with, so many businesses really showcase those in Medicine Hat and what we are up to. I think that there’s been a lot of new businesses pop up and there’s also been a lot of businesses that have held down the foundation here and this is just a really great place to showcase that,” says Gammelseter.

The Chamber of Commerce says they hope to reach pre-COVID levels of attendance with up to 12,000 people from across southern Alberta and Saskatchewan visiting the show.

The show runs Friday from noon to 8 p.m.. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.
