MEDICINE HAT, AB – More than 40 exhibitors set up at Medicine Hat College on Wednesday to provide information to potential applicants and job seekers at MHC’s annual community job fair.

Jaralyn McDonald is a first-year student studying language and speech pathology at the college.

McDonald joined hundreds of her peers at the annual campus fair.

Visiting booths, asking questions and speaking with potential employees, McDonald said she’s making the most out of the opportunity.

“I’m here looking for a job because I’ve worked retail for the last 10 years, as a student I can’t work every job so something casual, part-time is perfect for me. But while I’m here and these resources are here I’m looking for my friends that are possibly looking for a job, my boyfriend might possibly want a new job, my mom, my sister, whoever, because all these resources are already here,” she said.

Dozens of career opportunities were on display, with representatives on-hand to answer any question a job seeker may have.

“I think the networking is amazing because if you don’t even get that job you still made someone’s day because they’re out here donating their time so I think just making small conversations with the people that are here are great too,” said McDonald.

Aaron Breneman, manager of human resources with CORE Association, was busy speaking with interested job candidates throughout the day.

“I was here at 9:30 a.m. and there were tons of people and it hasn’t stopped,” said Breneman.

Breneman said CORE Association actively recruits students from the college through the job fair.

“They work out great for us. And we have like part-time positions and that’s what the students are looking for, a lot of them are looking for part-time and that fills a void for us,” said Breneman.

Kevin Monson, co-owner and GM of Treeosix Adventure Parks says they have open positions for students during the summer.

“We’re in a unique role with us because we are hiring summer seasonal positions. So we have the advantage that everyone here is mostly a student so it’s nice because we hire and our season goes from May to September which is when all these students would have time off,” said Monson.

McDonald says she’s happy to pass on any useful information to her family and friends.

“So I’m here I’m going to keep my ears open and if there’s something out there for someone I might know might work or may ever work, I’m going to pass on the info because I know we have to help each other out.”
