Alberta NDP renews calls for independent investigation into alleged emails from premier’s office to Crown prosecutors
Alberta’s Opposition NDP has renewed its call for an independent investigation into whether Premier Danielle Smith or her staff have contacted Crown prosecutors.
Smith said over the weekend she has asked for an email search to determine if her staff have contacted prosecutors and were interfering in cases involving the border crossing blockade in the village of Coutts last year.
She was responding to a CBC News report citing unnamed sources that said a staffer in her office sent a series of emails to Crown prosecutors last fall questioning and challenging their approach to the cases.
NDP member Rakhi Pancholi says the allegations are extremely serious and if Smith doesn’t know what the staff in her office are doing, she shouldn’t be premier.
