Pregame: Cougars at Tigers

Jan 17, 2023 | 12:30 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers welcome an unfamiliar foe to Co-op Place tonight.

With COVID impacting the Western Hockey League’s schedule it’s been more than three years since the Tigers have played the Prince George Cougars. They’re in town this evening for the first and only meeting of the season between the two clubs.

The last time they played was Nov. 16, 2019 at the CN Centre in Prince George where the Tigers were victorious 5-4. The only remaining Tiger from that game is Dru Krebs who had an assist in the victory. The only Cougar remaining from the roster is Blake Eastman.

Heading into tonight the Tigers are coming off a split last weekend in Manitoba while the Cougars have lost two straight and are in the middle of a seven-game road trip.

Led by Brendan Lee’s 20 goals and 18 assists, the Tigers (14-21-5-1) are holding down fifth in the Central Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Cougars (17-18-4) are second in the B.C. Division and sixth in the Western Conference. The Cougars have three players over 50 points this year, topped by Riley Heidt’s 56.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and if you can’t make it to the game you can hear all the action live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.

Never Waste a Ticket Night

Tonight’s game is one season ticket holders may have marked on their calendar as it’s the second Season Ticket Holder Jersey Giveaway night and is also Never Waste A Ticket Night.

Season ticket holders can bring unused tickets from earlier in the year to the box office and get extra tickets for tonight’s game.

Tigers media services manager Troy Durrell says it’s a chance to get a larger crowd out for a night at the rink to cheer on the Tigers

“Say they missed the home opener or they missed the game last weekend against Swift Current they can bring those tickets in and be able to bring a bigger group of people,” he explains. “So say you have season tickets for you and your wife you would then be able to maximize that and bring in however many tickets of the games you missed. So if you missed two games you can bring in six tickets and you could bring four extra people to the game tonight.”

The Tigers have two more Never Waste a Ticket Nights this season, one in February and one in March
