Suspect in custody after armed robbery attempt
MEDICINE HAT, AB – One man is in custody and will face charges after a failed armed robbery on the Southeast Hill on Dec. 29.
According to Medicine Hat Police Service, at about 9 p.m. a hold-up alarm was triggered in the zero hundred block of Seventh Street SE after a male entered the business brandishing a weapon and demanding money. The subject left the establishment without any money after a brief interaction with staff members.
Police contained the area and with the use of a MHPS drone were able to track the heat signature of the subject and allow officers to safely make an arrest. The entire apprehension and arrest were recorded on video with the use of the drone.
A 31-year-old male of no fixed address is currently awaiting a bail hearing. Police say he is to be charged with attempted robbery with an offensive weapon and one count of breach of probation. The identity of the male cannot be released until the conclusion of the bail hearing.
