Nanton man charged in connection to homicide

NANTON, AB – RCMP are continuing to investigate after an incident that reportedly led to the death of one person and injuries to several others.

On Dec. 27, Nanton RCMP received a report of a stabbing at a home in the community.

Upon arrival, emergency crews say they found numerous people suffering from injuries.

A 54-year-old Nanton resident was pronounced deceased on scene while three other victims and the suspect were taken to hospital with injuries.

Ryan Kelly Sutherland, 45, of Nanton, is charged with one count of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of failing to comply with release conditions.

Sutherland has been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Fort Macleod Provincial Court in early January.

The Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

As the matter is now before the courts, RCMP will not be providing any additional information.
