Bassano emergency department reopening overnight on weekdays

BASSANO, AB – The Bassano Health Centre emergency department will return to 24-hour, seven-days-a-week coverage effective Jan. 2, seven months after hours were reduced due to physician shortages.

On June 1, Alberta Health Services began to temporarily limit the hours at the department, closing it from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., Mondays to Thursdays.

AHS says a new physician recently began working in the community, and another is planning to begin in March.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.
