Province provides update on efforts to get more children’s medication on store shelves

Dec 21, 2022 | 3:02 PM

Medicine Hat, AB–Health Minister Jason Copping provided a brief update on Wednesday on efforts to secure more children’s medication for Albertans.

Copping says the large supply recently secured from overseas has been going through federal regulatory approvals over the past couple of weeks.

Copping says that process is almost complete and he hopes to confirm in the next few days final approval from Health Canada on the medication.

Once that approval has been given, Copping says they will have a better idea on when those medications will be available on store shelves.

There has been a nationwide shortage of children’s pain and cold medications for months at a time when rates of respiratory syncytial virus and influenza are increasing. This has left many parents scrambling to find the necessary medications to treat their kids pain and flu symptoms.
