There are fewer than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in Alberta this week and the number of Albertans in hospital with COVID-19 continues to go down.

The province posted its weekly update on Wednesday. There are 910 Albertans currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 33 of those people are in ICU. Last week those numbers were 992 and 32.

There were 926 new cases in Alberta over the past seven days, down from 1,045 the previous period, and 43 deaths, down three from last week

The province’s COVID-19 dashboard is now showing only zone statistics instead of by municipality. There were 63 new cases in the South Zone in the past seven days, down from 88 last week.

The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 20.2 new cases per 100,000 people is just under the provincial average of 21.

There have been 40,637 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 493 deaths, up eight from the previous update.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.3 per cent of all people have received one dose, 75.9 per cent have received two doses and 38.5 per cent have received three doses.

Reporting of COVID statistics will be limited over the holidays, and return to normal in the new year.
