More than $100,000 awarded

Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta announces 13 grant recipients

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta awarded more than $100,000 to area charities, not-for-profits and organizations at its Fall Chairs Reception last month.

The CFSEA says the Smart and Caring Community Grants are intended to support communities in the region by enhancing belonging of all citizens and strengthening the non-profit and voluntary sectors. Donors choose this fund as a way to allocate their contributions to support the community’s greatest needs.

“We are so grateful to work alongside the Rural Advisory Committees in Brooks, the County of Forty Mile, and Special Areas 2, 3 & MD of Acadia, to ensure the greatest needs in our communities are being supported,” says Cheryl Pocsik, grants committee chair.

“Our funding priorities this grant cycle focused on Mental Health, Work & Economy, and Vulnerable Populations. Thank you to our incredible group of volunteers who make up our Grants Committee.”

A full list of the organizations receiving grants, the project and the funding received is below. It totals $100,732.

During each grant cycle, CFSEA conducts a comprehensive procedure to determine the most crucial community needs from data and evidence-based practice. Grants are then awarded based on potential impact and fund availability.

The CFSEA says the current priorities, in no particular order, are mental health, work and economy and vulnerable populations – particularly food security, domestic violence, and housing stability.

The next Community Grant cycle will open to applications in early February 2023.
