Pregame: Giants at Tigers

Nov 1, 2022 | 12:45 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat play the final game of their five-game homestand Tuesday, welcoming the Vancouver Giants.

Medicine Hat has a record of 1-2-1 in the first four games, and currently sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference.

In their last one, the Tigers fell short in overtime to the Victoria Royals. A positive note to take out of that game was the strong performance from goaltender Evan May in what was his second start in two nights.

Tuesday’s game will mark the return of the Tigers 2022 first-overall draft pick Gavin McKenna. This will not count as one of the five designated games he is allowed in his 15-year-old season, as it’s defined to be an emergency call-up.

Room was made for McKenna when Cayden Lindstrom was added to Canada’s Team White at the upcoming World U17 Tournament in Langley, B.C. Lindstrom joins his Tabbies’ teammate Tomas Mrsic.

During his time with the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy, McKenna has 11 goals, and 14 assists in only eight games played.

In his first and only WHL game so far McKenna had four assists in the Tigers 9-1 home opener victory for the Tigers over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

On the Vancouver side, the Giants come to Co-op Place on a two-game losing streak, with their most recent contest being against Calgary in a 3-2 loss to the Hitmen.

They currently sit with a 4-7-3 record and in seventh place in the Western Conference.

The Giants are being driven offensively this season by Samuel Honzek, who has 15 points in 14 games played. Ty Thorpe has 14 points in the same amount of games.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Co-op Place, but if you are not able to make it you can hear all the action on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
