MEDICINE HAT, AB – Different haunted houses have been popping up all over the city put together both privately, and by multiple organizations.

There’s all levels of scares available to be had at the different houses, with some even offering a jump scare free experience if chosen by the person going through.

Starting at the family friendly level, the Redcliff Youth Centre is hosting the Glass House Haunting in support of the Root Cellar and themselves.

This haunted house has many different rooms, and takes about twenty-five minutes to complete if going at a steady pace.

Acting Executive Director of the Youth Centre, Taylor Bartrm says this is their third annual Halloween event that they have held, and have seen a great turn out so far. With it all only being possible with the help of the community volunteers, and members of the Youth Centre.

Being in support of the Root Cellar they have been taking food donations from the attendees of the house. Bartrm says “we have raised a lot so far, we have filled one bin and are almost full on another one.”

The Glass House Haunting will be open from 5-10 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 31.

The next level up in scare factor would be the Haunted Greenhouse in Redcliff. The house is ran by Julie Lagasse and her family, this being their third year holding the event.

The house takes about twenty minutes to complete, being full of creatively built rooms and many surprises.

Lagasse says when it comes to being really scary or family friendly she feels they fall right in the middle.

“We do try and cater to whoever is coming through, we have a microphone that will announce no scarers. If their really scared we’ll have somebody walk through and say no scarers ahead. We really want everybody to be able to enjoy it.”

The Haunted Greenhouse is dedicating some of their proceeds from this Halloween season to HALO Air Ambulance.

Lagasse explained her reasoning behind it saying “we just thought what an excellent support because they are for southern Alberta, and they help so many individuals. Nobody wants to see their family in need of that service, but it is so important to have.”

The Haunted Greenhouse will be open from 6-11 p.m. on Oct. 29, 6-10 p.m. Oct.30 and 5 p.m. to midnight on Halloween.

The highest level of scare to be found is at the Bounce of Fun Haunted house in Medicine Hat. This house is ran by Bart Chase and his partner Dan Hamilton in support of the Medicine Hat Ringette Association.

This house stays around that twenty minute completion range, and wastes no time getting the people walking through involved in the scares.

Chase says that him and his partner have been doing haunted houses combined for about thirty years, and that this year they are bigger, badder and better than any year before.

In regards to why they chose to support the Ringette Association Chase says “I have had a daughter in ringette for years, I coached for over ten years. The Ringette Association is amazing.”

The Bounce of Fun Haunted House is open from 6:30-9:30 p.m. until Halloween day, and Chase added they as well hold a less scary matinee for the kids from 2-5 p.m.
