Tigers fall 6-3 in Spokane

Oct 15, 2022 | 9:40 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It wasn’t the outcome The Tabbies were looking for in the final game of their U.S. road trip.

In the first period it was the Spokane Chiefs who came out flying scoring the opening goal of the night on the powerplay. Ty Cheveldayoff was the man who got the goal, that being his second tally of the season.

The Chiefs continued to put the pressure on Medicine Hat as Chase Bertholet grabbed his second point of the night with a goal just one minute after their initial score.

Brendan Lee and The Tigers were not ready to lay down yet as at 8:39 of the first he scored on the powerplay to keep The Tabbies league leading powerplay surging.

It was a loud first 10 minutes of the first, but the final half of the period would quiet down leaving the Tigers trailing 2-1 headed into the second period.

The second would start off much the same as the end of the first. Until 6:20 when Shane Smith got his 5th goal of the road trip to knot up the game 2-2. Smith had got his first career WHL goal on the first game of the road trip in Everett, and hasn’t let up since.

The game did not stay tied for long as Seige Weinstein scored for Spokane only three minutes later to put his team back up by 1 headed into the third period.

The Tigers did not let up in the final frame as they were able to tie it up 3-3 on the tipped home shot from Washington Capitals prospect Dru Krebs credited to Oasiz Wiesblatt for his 5th of the season. That leaving him tied for most goals on the team this year with Brendan Lee and Shane Smith.

Despite the fighting effort from The Tabbies, Spokane would go back up by one on the powerplay goal from Berkly Catton that standing as the game winner. The insurance goal for The Chiefs was potted by Blake Swetlikoff, followed by an empty-net goal from Kooper Gizowski for a final score of 6-3.

The Tigers record now sits at 3-4-1 landing them 7th in the eastern conference. They will now make their way home for a Friday night matchup against the undefeated Red Deer Rebels at Co-Op Place. Puck Drop at 7:00 p.m.

If not able to attend, the call of the game can be heard on Wild 94.5 with voice of The Tigers Gino De Paoli.
