CP Holiday Train back on track in 2022

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is back in person and stopping in Medicine Hat this year after COVID-19 knocked it off the rails in 2020 and 2021.

A favourite annual event for many, the brightly lit and festive trains roll across Canada and the U.S., stopping along the way for mini-concerts and raising awareness for local food banks in communities along the CP network.

The Medicine Hat stop is on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Country star Tenille Townes of Grande Prairie, Alta, and Toronto-based songwriter Aysanabee will perform. The train is in Maple Creek, Sask. earlier in the day and moves to Tilley, Brooks and Gleichen after Medicine Hat.

“The Holiday Train is all about families and communities coming together to celebrate the season and help those in need,” says Keith Creel, CP’s president and CEO, in a news release. “We are excited to be back out on the rails and in our communities, taking these two beautiful trains across our network and sharing the joy that comes with gathering in the spirit of giving.”

Holiday Train shows are free to attend and CP asks attendees to bring a cash or non-perishable food donation if they’re able. Local food banks will set up collection stations at each event, with all donations made staying with the local food bank to help people in need in the community.

The Canadian tour will start on Nov. 23 in Lac-Mégantic, Que. and end in Port Coquitlam, B.C. on Dec. 18.

Medicine Hat’s MacKenzie Porter hops aboard in Cochrane as the train heads west. Other performers on the tour include Alan Doyle, Virginia to Vegas, Lindsay Ell, Texas Hill and Kelly Prescott.
