Who votes in Brooks-Medicine Hat?

Oct 12, 2022 | 11:46 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Premier Danielle Smith has called a byelection for Brooks-Medicine Hat, but just who will be voting?

Constituency or riding boundaries were redrawn prior to the 2019 election, and Medicine Hat was essentially split in half. The southern boundary of Brooks-Medicine Hat mainly follows the South Saskatchewan River, but juts south within the city along Highway 1 to Highway 41A (Gershaw Drive). From there the boundary runs through downtown on Highway 41A (Third Street) and addresses on Third Street north of the centre line are in Brooks-Medicine Hat. The boundary runs along Third Street to the CP Rail yard, where it meets up with the river again and moves east out of the city along Highway 41 and then Township Road 132 to the Saskatchewan boundary.

Everything south of the constituency line from Saskatchewan to just beyond Seven Persons is Cypress-Medicine Hat.

Brooks-Medicine Hat is defined by the South Saskatchewan River and Bow River to the north and west, as well as the County of Newell boundary and the Red Deer River. The riding stretches to the Cypress County boundary north of Medicine Hat and once again meets the South Saskatchewan River northwest of Hilda.
