MEDICINE HAT, AB – The first phase of the city’s destination parks visioning project begins this week at the Ranchlands Open Space and Saamis Archaeological Site.

Starting on Wednesday in Ranchlands, consultants hired by the parks and recreation department will conduct in-person engagement and collect feedback from residents and visitors to shape the future vision for each park.

According to the City of Medicine Hat, the survey opportunity includes a mapping activity which logs amenities residents and park visitors believe should be considered in the future development of each park. The surveys will also collect comments on areas of concern which are shared.

Staff wearing blue reflective vests will be in Ranchlands on Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and in Saamis Archeological Site on Thursday from 7-10 a.m. Staff may also be in the neighbourhoods near these parks to engage residents and gather more feedback.

Similar engagement sessions will take place for Kin Coulee Park, Strathcona Island Park, Downtown Waterfront and Police Point Park at a later date.

This engagement stems from work which stems from the city’s completed Parks & Recreation Master Plan and action items identified in the plan.
