Road closures to make way for the Stampede Parade

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Downtown streets will be closed and parking will be limited on Thursday morning for the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Parade.

Major roadways including Finlay Bridge, Maple Avenue Bridge and Maple Avenue between First Street SE and Third Street SE will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the duration of the parade. The following roads will also be closed for the parade route:

  • First Street SE from Maple Avenue SE to Fourth Avenue SE
  • Second Street SE from South Railway Street SE to Fourth Avenue SE
  • Third Street SE from South Railway Street SE to Fourth Avenue SE
  • South Railway Street SE from Second Street SE to Fourth Street SE
  • Fourth Avenue SE from First Street SE to Fourth Street SE

Starting at 7:30 a.m. there will be no on-street parking allowed at these locations:

  • 800 – 900 block of Second Street SE
  • 800 block of Third Street SE
  • Allowance Avenue SE
  • Woodman Avenue SE

The east parking lot at Towne Square will be barricaded for a pancake breakfast. The west lot will remain available to monthly and annual pass holders.

There will be minor adjustments to some Medicine Hat Transit routes. Buses will operate on the parade route until 8:50 a.m.

Route 20 – Flats will run a limited route until the parade begins and will resume at the end of the parade. Route 10 – NECH and Route 11 – NWCH will both end at the Hockey Hounds Arena at Ninth Street NE and Division Avenue instead of the downtown terminal. A shuttle will be available for riders who want to get get downtown.

The washroom facilities inside city hall will be available to the public during the parade.

Motorists are reminded to obey all posted signs and to take extra caution while driving downtown due to the increase in pedestrian traffic.
