Quonset Days attendees ready to let loose, says organizer

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – Quonset Days organizer Trevor Biemans is dealing with a range of emotions one day before the first Quonset Days since 2019.

“There’s a bit of anxiety with it, just not having put the event on for a couple of years but definitely a lot of excitement with not only our board but the campers rolling in,” he says. “Everybody’s got a big smile on their face and they’re ready to let loose and get back at it again.”

Billed as the Greatest Outdoor Party on Dirt, Quonset Days began in 2010 as a tribute to Peter Biemans and a way to support the ALS Society of Alberta. Biemans passed away the previous summer after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

In its 12-year history, the weekend has raised more than $450,000 for the ALS Society of Alberta.

Since its humble beginnings Quonset Days has only gotten bigger and bigger and this year it will be a three-day event for the first time.

Jason McCoy will start things off on HALO Day on Thursday, when a portion of the proceeds will go to support HALO Air Ambulance. The Reklaws headline on Friday night followed by Corb Lund on Saturday.

The weekend’s lineup also includes The Chevelles, Phoenix, Steven Lee Olsen and more.

You can hop on a shuttle to the site near Seven Persons. The shuttle will make one run Thursday and multiple runs Friday and Saturday, with pickups at Brown’s Social House and the Garage Pub and Eatery. Organizers also have deals with Care Cabs and Another Choice for reduced fares.

Biemans says there’s a post on the Quonset Days Facebook page where you may be able to find camping passes.

Presales have stopped and tickets are now only available at the gate.

Biemans is eager to see Quonset Days veterans and rookies this weekend.

“A lot of these people have been with us for all 10 years that we’ve had it previous. So just to see everybody, our long-time regulars and the new faces that are coming and just to raise money for ALS again is something we’ve been looking forward to.”
