Wheat Growers speak out against potential changes to pesticide act
PRINCE ALBERT, SK – Changes in how the federal government may review pesticides aren’t sitting well with the Western Canadian Wheat Growers.
The group recently announced it made a submission to the Pest Management Regulatory Agency’s review of the Pest Control Products Act.
This comes after the government stated last August it was potentially changing the way pesticides are reviewed, while also putting a pause on proposed increases to maximum residue limits.
“We would support PMRA Program renewal with more transparent decision-making, more predictable risk assessment, and the ability to bring in data earlier rather than modelling worst-case scenarios,” said Jim Wickett, WCWG’s secretary-treasurer.
