MEDICINE HAT, AB — A main artery connecting downtown Medicine Hat with Crestwood, Southview and Ross Glen neighbourhoods will be closed for much of the summer, starting next Monday.

The city will begin work on Carry Drive SE from the top of Scholten Hill to the intersection with Cameron Road.

Traffic detours will be installed, followed by construction activities, with work anticipated to be completed by September 2022, weather dependent.

In a release, the city listed some of the work they are planning to complete in that time period.

The scope of the project will:

  • remove and replace the pavement surface;
  • upgrade the curve and intersections at Southview Drive SE and Ross Glen Drive SE;
  • remove and replace damaged concrete surfaces, where necessary; and
  • add and replace damaged stormwater infrastructure.

The traffic detour plans will vary depending on the location of the active construction zone.

Initially, Carry Drive will be closed to through traffic between Crestwood Drive to Cuyler Road.

Traffic coming up Scholten Hill will detour onto Crestwood Drive/Corbitt Way/Cuyler Road.

Northbound traffic will detour onto Southview Drive to Dunmore Road.

Changes to the traffic detour plans will be required as the project progresses.

This is the second major road project announced by the city this week.

The city says Hill Road will also be closed for work starting July 4.
