YMCA open to city passholders

City, YMCA partner to keep swimmers in the pool during closures

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The YMCA of Medicine Hat will honour memberships at two city facilities while they are shut down for maintenance this summer.

The Crestwood Recreation Centre will be closed in July for necessary routine maintenance. During the shutdown, active memberships will be honoured at the YMCA’s downtown and South Ridge locations. Access will be allowed to the weights and cardio machines, group fitness classes and the pool for lane swimming.

In late August and early September, the local YMCA will honour active Big Marble Go Centre memberships during that facility’s annual shutdown, scheduled from Aug. 18 to Sept. 5.

“Given that we are a current partner with the city and operate the South Ridge YMCA on behalf of the city, we saw an opportunity to offer another option for active passholders during the maintenance shutdown for both Crestwood in July and the Big Marble Go Centre in August,” says YMCA of Medicine Hat CEO Sharon Hayward in a news release.

James Will, director with the city’s parks and recreation department, says they were thrilled when the local YMCA approached them with the idea. He says it’s another example of the great work the YMCA does to support the health and wellbeing of residents in the community.
