necessary routine maintenance

Crestwood Rec Centre closing for July

Jun 1, 2022 | 2:29 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Crestwood Recreation Centre will close for the month of July for what the city says is necessary routine maintenance in the pool area.

“This scheduled maintenance is routine work which needs to happen to ensure everything beneath the surface is operating efficiently, as well as address any required repairs identified since the reopening in February. This will include the repair and replacement of some tiles within and around the pool,” said James Will, director of the City of Medicine Hat’s parks & recreation department.

Will adds this type of work is always anticipated for the city’s indoor facilities and requires the pool to be drained in order to perform a proper inspection and repairs. He says that just like the annual shutdown of the Big Marble Go Centre in August, this work is best performed in the summer months when outdoor pools are open for the season.

The facility will reopen on Aug. 2.

The city encourages people to visit the outdoor pools, including Hill and Strathcona Pool, which open for the summer swim season on Friday. Existing Crestwood memberships will be honoured at these locations, and at Big Marble Go Centre, for July.

Regular scheduled programming, including Aqua Fit classes, will continue until the temporary closure.

Any pass holders who wish to freeze or cancel their Crestwood membership can contact customer service at recreation@medicinehat.ca or at 403-529-8320.
