MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Hat Art Club is brining back ‘Art in the Park’, giving local artists and artisans the opportunity to showcase their work.

This is the first event after a five year break. It aims to be an opportunity to engage with the community and generate some interest in the club.

“The last two years, as everybody knows, have been topsy turvy,” says Leslie Mayer, Direct of Membership for Hat Art Club and Chair of Art in the Park. “So this is one way of reintroducing the club to the public and hoping to get new members.”

Art in the Park runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Medicine Hat Cultural Centre.

The event will feature food trucks, musicians and an art supply sale, as well as artisan booths, allowing attendees the chance to take some some original work.

“It’s all local artists, so we are really hoping people come and see their work,” Mayer says. “We have some excellent, excellent artists there that do excellent work.”

The Hat Art Club has been a gathering place for local artists since 1946. The club is joining with local potters and the Fibre Arts Society to host Art in the Park.

“We’re trying to get some motivation for the artists to sell their wares and get recognized,” says Mayer.

There will also be a silent auction for select art pieces, and a free painting activity.

Art in the Park is free to attend and more information can be found here.
