REDCLIFF, AB – A Redcliff resident’s stop at a Saskatchewan gas station has turned out to be a life-changing decision.

On May 8, William Ranger bought a lottery ticket for the May 13 draw at the White City Esso just east of Regina. Back home a few days later, Ranger used a self-checker and learned of his windfall. But at first, he didn’t know how big it was.

“I didn’t have my glasses on but there were a lot of zeroes,” said Ranger in a news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.

After using the self-checker once more, Ranger brought his ticket to the cashier who told him he had won $100,000.

With the winnings, Ranger intends to extend an annual trip south. “I’m paying off most of my debt and then spend a few weeks more in Mexico. I’m hoping to go a little longer this year.”

Ranger matched the last six digits of the winning Extra number for the Lotto Max draw: 6041491.

“It’s an overwhelming send of relief. It’s certainly a Godsend,” Ranger added.

This is the second $100,000 win in Redcliff since March. Ariel de la Cruz also won on an Extra Lotto Max draw. He won on the Jan. 7 draw but didn’t check his ticket until more than two months later.
