Redcliff resident wins $100,000

Medicine Hat, AB–A Redcliff man got quite the shock two weeks ago while checking his lotto tickets.

Ariel de la Cruz discovered that he had won $100,000 on the EXTRA he added to his LOTTO MAX ticket.

The ticket had actually been purchased for the January 7th draw but Cruz hadn’t gotten around to checking it.

“I woke up and thought to myself, ‘I should check my tickets,’” he recalled. Cruz picked up his phone and opened the Lotto Spot! App. “I had no idea I was holding onto a winning ticket!”

“I checked my ticket 15 times,” he laughed. “I wasn’t sure if my phone was broken or reading the ticket wrong.”

The winner brought his ticket into a local store and checked it using the self-checker to be sure.

Having just retired, Cruz plans on putting his winnings towards some renovations and investing the rest.

He purchased the ticket from Redcliff Food Fair located at 208 Broadway Ave E in Redcliff on January 6.

He won by matching the last six digits of the winning EXTRA number for the January 7 LOTTO MAX draw – 1059648
