MEDICINE HAT, AB – The CHAT TV news team is honoured to have received two nominations for the 2022 Radio Television Digital News Association Prairie Region Awards.

Sports anchor and reporter Scott Roblin’s feature on local Paralympian Sarah Mickey is a finalist for Excellence in Sports Reporting. This story focused on Sarah’s inspiring journey to take back her life after the former figure skater became paralyzed from the waist down.

“We’re beyond thrilled and honoured to have received this finalist nomination from the RTDNA for our feature story on Sarah Mickey,” said Roblin. “Sarah’s story of perseverance and dedication to sport is something the entire community has seen in her transition to para-sport.

Sarah’s message of overcoming life’s greatest hurdles and still getting to chase her goals in sport and beyond made all the difference to the piece. We thank her and Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport & Recreation’s Tara Chisholm for helping us illuminate that journey.”

Anchor Dan Reynish and former ENG videographer Derek Brade are up for an Excellence in Editing Award for their work showcasing all the Alberta locations where Ghostbusters: Afterlife was filmed.

“To be nominated for an RTDNA Award for a feature that originated from a place of pure joy, just adds to the journey the Ghostbusters: Afterlife feature has taken us on. As if visiting multiple locations, over a dozen weekends, and travelling for more than thirty-one hours across southern Alberta wasn’t enough, now we’re shortlisted for the ‘Excellence in Editing Award’! I continue to be thrilled with the outcome of our feature, on and off screens,” said Reynish.

CHAT TV is the only small market television station to be up for awards this year in the prairie region. “We are extremely proud to be mentioned in the same categories as larger stations like CBC and Global. Our team works extremely hard every day to share stories and events impacting Medicine Hat and area. These nominations are greatly deserved and I’m very proud of the work the team does,” said news director Regan Tate

RTDNA Canada Awards honour the best journalists, programs, platforms, stations, and newsgathering organizations in audio, digital and video.

The regional award winners will be announced May 24.
