MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city is looking for feedback from the community as it plans for a new playground at the big Marble Go Centre.

Children and parents can vote on their preferred amenities and playground theme. An online survey regarding the proposed playground styles is now available on Shape Your City.

“Our intention is to build a new playground closer to the facility entrance, which offers a new way to play, is accessible, and is surrounded by trees, offering natural protection from the sun and wind,” said Jamie McLeod, manager of asset planning and facility operations with the City of Medicine Hat, in a news release.

The survey results will be part of the final decision on the play structure concept. The decision will be weighted as follows: Survey Results – 40 per cent, Research/best practices – 30 per cent, Contributions from community stakeholders – 20 per cent and Feedback from subject matter experts 10 per cent.

McLeod added the city wants to ensure that each of the proposals aligns with the overall playground management plan, while empowering the community to help choose what the new playground will look like

“We expect that each of these concepts will be unique and provide some diversity to our playground portfolio. We’re excited to see what our newest destination playground will look like,” he said.

The old ship-style playground at Big Marble Go Centre needed to be relocated to accommodate the construction of a multi-court pickleball facility announced in the spring of 2021.

The survey will remain open until Monday, May 16 at 8 a.m.
