MEDICINE HAT, AB – The work to move the Family Leisure Centre playground to make way for a multi-court pickleball facility and expanded parking will begin soon.

The City of Medicine Hat announced on May 15 it would relocate the playground with construction on the pickleball facility and parking lot expected to begin this summer.

“It’s our intention to build a new playground closer to the entrance of the FLC in 2022,” said Jamie McLeod, manager of business and asset planning with the city. “This location is ideal as it is surrounded by trees, offering parents a place to relax that is out of the sun.”

The proposed playground would align with the city’s playground management plan, completed earlier this year. The plan highlights the community’s desire for different styles of playgrounds, including adventure and natural-style play structures.

“The city engaged with the public to create the playground management plan in 2019 to better understand what our residents want and need as we assess our current playgrounds and build for the future,” added McLeod. “We’re excited to share new climbing and play structure concepts with the community, and to offer another brand new amenity to the FLC.”

Opportunities for the public to share their feedback on the proposed playground styles will be shared on the city’s Shape Your City website, and via social media pages over the coming months.
