Judge reserves decision on convoy organizer Tamara Lich’s bail conditions

Apr 20, 2022 | 11:36 AM

Tamara Lich, one of the leaders of the convoy to the nation’s capital and protest that gridlocked the city’s downtown, appeared in an Ottawa court today by video from Medicine Hat.

Lich has heavy restrictions in place on her use of social media.

Her new lawyer, Ottawa-based Lawrence Greenspon, was seeking changes to her bail conditions to have them loosened.

Greenspon says the social media restriction is overly broad and an unnecessary condition of Lich’s release.

The Crown argued that a Superior Court judge can’t review the decision of another Superior Court judge.

The judge decided to reserve her decision on whether Lich can get a new bail review, but promised to get something out as soon as possible.

Lich was arrested Feb. 17, a day before the large police operation began that removed the protesters who occupied downtown Ottawa streets for three weeks.

Lich was connected by Zoom to today’s court proceedings but had her camera off and was muted.

A large crowd of people welcomed Lich back to Medicine Hat when she returned to the city in March.
