Tigers blanked for second straight game, Langkow shines in 3-0 loss

RED DEER, AB – Heading down the stretch drive of the WHL season, the Medicine Hat Tigers are mired in their biggest scoring slump of the year.

For the second game in a row, the Tigers were shut out by their opposition with the latest coming in Red Deer on Friday night by a 3-0 final.

Beckett Langkow was phenomenal in his return from injury for Medicine Hat with a career-high 40 save performance, however he saw little to no run support Friday.

Taking on the Rebels for the final time this season, the Tigers skated to the first intermission with a 0-0 score on the jumbotron with Langkow making 10 stops in the opening frame.

Red Deer finally broke through with 5:55 remaining in the second, as Arshdeep Bains capitalized on a rebound that had just enough on it to beat Langkow in the Canucks prospect’s 250th career WHL game.

His line mate Jhett Larson was able to double the Rebels’ lead less than three minutes into the third, receiving a feed from Hunter Mayo off the far wall for the 2-0 tap-in.

Mayo added to his multi-point night six minutes later, setting up Matteo Fabrizi for the seeing-eye shot from the point that would cap off the scoring for Red Deer.

Langkow’s final stat line read 40 saves on 43 shots against, while Chase Coward earned his second shutout of the year with 13 stops.

Medicine Hat’s goalless streak now sits at over 150 minutes of action, with the team’s last goal coming midway through the second period in a 5-1 loss to Swift Current on March 18.

Tigers forward Teague Patton also left Friday’s weekend opener and did not return, his status is unknown for Saturday’s tilt at Co-Op Place against the Calgary Hitmen.

Puck drop for that contest is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
